Born in Belgrade in 1968, pianist Bojan Zulfikarpašić settled in Paris at the age of 20 to quickly become an influential figure on the French and European Jazz scene. A brilliant musician with a dazzling technique, Bojan Z (as he ended up calling himself to make his tricky surname easier to pronounce) also constantly merges his Serbian and Balkan background into his music. “Don’t Buy Ivory, Anymore” is a remarkable circular theme composed by French double bass player Henri Texier which first appeared on his 1993 recording An Indian’s week and which already featured Bojan Z on the piano. The latter revisits the theme on his 2001 release Solobsession, a highly original and landmark solo piano recording that has definitely stood out the test of time. Many critics even suggested echoes of Keith Jarrett and the The Köln Concert at the time of its release.
